Vermilion County is continuing to advance improvements at some county-owned buildings by using federal ARPA funds. The County earlier received $15-million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funds designed to help the county recover from the COVID pandemic.
County Board Chairman Larry Baughn (shown in photo) described the updates….
{AUDIO: ”For quite some time we’ve talked about improvements needing to be done here at several of our buildings. One here at the Administration Building – the Joseph G. Cannon Building. The windows – that’s kind of our last big project here at the moment. We’ve got the roof completion coming-up here in the next 30 days, hopefully. The HVAC system is being redone as we speak. So, those are the big three projects there. And, of course, some architectural work at the courthouse.”}

{The committee also agreed to advance plans for some new signs for the Joseph G. Cannon Office Building where most county offices are located.}
Baughn told members of the County Board’s Property Committee last evening (Monday, October 23, 2023) that he thinks spending $16-thousand dollars to hire a professional consulting firm to study the needs of the animal shelter is well worth the money….
{AUDIO: ”They’ll come up and assess our animal shelter (and) tell us what improvements can be made to our current facility. And how to move forward with a project if that would turn into a new building. Or, again, what we have could be remodeled and updated to certain specifications.}
Some committee members also said they want a very detailed memorandum of understanding with the City of Danville before the city proceeds with demolition of the former Bresee Tower. It is unknown when that demolition might begin, but it would also apparently involve the demolition of the vacant County Annex building which is adjacent to the tower.
