It began back in 2017, right on Veterans Day. And now it’s held every year on the Saturday before Veterans Day. The seventh annual American Legion Post 210 Veterans 5K will be this Saturday, November 4th, at Post 210, 201 Prospect Place along Jackson Street. Lisa Knapp, the post’s Entertainment Committee Chairperson, told Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program that this special fundraiser has brought some great results.
AUDIO: From the last six years of doing this, we’ve raised over $30,000. And that has gone to help our local Veterans programs; and it also helps with improvements to our facility. We’ve actually put in, with the help of these funds, a handicapped bathroom.
You can sign up for this Saturday’s Veterans 5K by going to the American Legion Post 210 Facebook page and registering online, or printing out the form. You can also stop by Post 210, or register between 9:30 and 10:30 Saturday morning, before the race begins at 11 AM. Cost to participate is $20 per person, and $15 for a commemorative Post 210 shirt. Kids 4 to 12 can participate for 10 dollars, and children three and under are free. You do not have to be part of a military family to participate; the entire public is welcome.
