Mickensy Ellis-White
“Worthy now. Not if. Not when. We are worthy of love and belonging now. Right this minute. As is.” – Brene Brown.
Millions of Americans experience symptoms of mental health conditions each year. Mental health is known to have a ripple effect impacting not only individuals but families, communities, and economies. Vermilion County is no exception to those challenges. However, we are fortunate enough to have amazing people like Mickensy Ellis-White that help provide healing for those experiencing mental health conditions.
Mickensy is a born and raised Vermilion County resident. She graduated from Danville High School and feels her time there prepared her for a more diverse, global society. She later joined the Army, served in Iraq in 2011, and worked as a Behavioral Health Specialist. She went on to work at the VA as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor and then eventually started her own business, Mpower Counseling, PLLC. She is also the Chair of the Vermilion County Democrats and a Yoga Instructor.
Mickensy and her wonderful husband Garin just celebrated their 2nd year of marriage. They have one dog, Hope, and 2 cats. Throughout our interview, it was clear to see that Mickensy is a very humble, authentic soul. Her main objective in life is to provide healing. She is continuously researching ways to stay up to date in her field and is open to various avenues of healing. Her humble self did not mention this in our interview, but I would be remiss if I didn’t congratulate her on her business, Mpower Counseling, winning the 2023 Best of Danville award!
Mickensy feels very fortunate to live in a place that has beautiful scenery, all four seasons, affordable living, and opportunity for growth. She loves all the parks and outdoor activities that are available. She enjoys walking her dog, kayaking, yoga, working out and watching movies. She also exclaims the best thing about living in Vermilion County is….her family and friends! Mickensy has some amazing people in her life, and they feel the same way about her. Her nomination stated, “Mickensy is one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met. From serving our nation, to serving our community she is the definition of an empowering, strong woman with a giving heart. She thrives in helping others and is the first one to jump in when she sees a problem that needs fixed. Her leadership skills are second to none.”
Thank you, Mickensy Ellis-White, for providing healing to others. Thank you for your sincerity, authenticity, and overall compassion. Thank you for serving our Country and Vermilion County, you are a hero inside and out!

BIGG Tip of the Week: How Much Does the Sounds of Your Voice Impact Your Message? Research shows a speaker’s voice mattered twice as much as the content of the message. What’s the key to good voice quality? Proper breathing, according to Bob Corff, voice coach to the stars. When you breathe right, your stomach pushes out when you breathe in and sinks back when you breathe out. Take a deep breath before you speak for your BIGG Success.
