Former Danville mayor Bob Jones turns 85 years old later this month. And current Danville mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says they wanted to do something special for him. After all, sometimes opportunities to do something special for someone can be missed.

You know, it’s kind of one of those things, give people their flowers while we can celebrate together. We had been talking about doing something for him and Bill Black; and, unfortunately, we lost Representative Black. So, then I also knew that there was this group interesting in honoring Mayor Jones in some way. So, we just decided to collaborate.
So the collaborating parties contacted Jones’ former secretary, Judy Henk; who passed along the word. The reception honoring Former Mayor Bob Jones will be 3 to 6 PM; Tuesday, November 7th in the City Council Chambers, prior to the 6 PM City Council meeting, with a special ceremony at the start of the meeting.

Bob Jones was the first mayor elected under the new mayor-aldermanic form of government, after that change was made in 1987. Jones served as mayor until 2003.
