The Vermilion County Board has agreed to embark on a needs assessment study of the county’s animal shelter. The study is the first step in what could potentially lead to the construction of a new shelter.
Kasey Snyder, Director of the Vermilion County Department of Animal Regulations and Shelter, says the current shelter is in dire need of being improved or replaced. The shelter is located along the Catlin-Tilton Road, just west of Tilton.
County Board Chairman Larry Baughn signed a contract this week for step one of the study with Shelter Planners of America. Once the needs assessment survey is approved, work on a conceptual design will begin.
Snyder says the Vermilion County Animal Shelter is currently at its capacity for cats and dogs. She is hopeful that more people will agree to adopt the animals.
