For the second consecutive month, the overall jobs picture in both Vermilion County and Danville showed improvement from September to October. But the numbers are still a long way from much more positive picture from one year ago.
Vermilion County’s unemployment rate dropped from 6.3% in September to 5.7% in October. However, Vermilion County’s rate stood way back at 4.6% in October of 2022.
The City of Danville’s October unemployment rate came in at 7.1%, after being up at 7.6% in September. But Danville’s rate was much lower, at 5.5%, in October of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 800 jobs overall, when comparing October of 2023 with October of 2022. Looking at more specific categories; Leisure and Hospitality jobs were up by 500, Government jobs were up by 300, and Financial Activities jobs were up by 100. Professional-Business Services jobs were down by 100, for the only sector to show a decrease from October 2022 to October of 2023.
