News story here.
Mad Goat Coffee co-founder and co-owner Sam George says the announcement that they are expanding over to Downtown Champaign has actually been in the works for a while.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: In the last year and a half we’ve been talking and partnering with some friends of ours who live over in Champaign, Ben Karlowski and Danielle Thompson. Danielle Thompson’s actually been working over here at the Danville location to gain experience. But all along their goal has been to open a Mad Goat over in Champaign, and be the local owners and point people for that.

George says the location will be an historic, stand alone building over 100 years old, which used to be the Derailed bar. It’s also right by the Black Dog Smoke and Ale House. The address will be 57 East Main, at East Main and North Chestnut; on Downtown Champaign’s east side.
George also says the Mad Goat Coffee at 701 South Gilbert will continue to be their roastery for all locations. As far as how does Royal Donut factor into this; Sam George mentioned that you might see some Royal Donuts at the new Champaign location, just not all the time. And nothing has been counted out for the future.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: It probably won’t be a daily offering. But we’d like to try to figure out a way to get some Royal Donuts over there, from time to time. And maybe get a foot in the door for a possible Royal Donut down the road.
George says construction has already begun, and the Champaign Mad Goat Coffee should be opening this coming spring.
