The Three Kings of Peace are seeking some support from the Vermilion County Board to help with a youth mentorship program at their Roselawn Fitness Center. Bill Pickett has more on that request….
Reverend Frank McCullough told members of the County Board’s Finance and Personnel Committee Monday evening what is currently being offered at the fitness center…
{AUDIO: “Right now we have yoga, we’re doing yoga. We’re doing dance, we have certain individuals that come in with dance groups. We have basketball, and, of course, we would do our direct mentoring sessions with our youth here in the city.”}
McCullough said they want to expand fitness programs for older youth.
The Three Kings of Peace are seeking $70-thousand dollars in federal ARPA funds from the county.

The Finance Committee also heard a request for federal ARPA funds from Gateway Family Services to help with its behavioral health clinic. Based in Potomac, the program partners with horses, including taking mini horses into schools.
County Board member Nancy O’Kane thinks the committee made a mistake by failing to support a request for $75-thousand dollars in ARPA funding for the Central Illinois Land Bank…..
{AUDIO: ”Representatives in those little communities need to understand what the Land Bank or the Central Illinois Land Bank can do for their communities. Because you can tear down one house, two houses – and make it completely different in the neighborhood, and for those people that live around that.”}
The committee also heard a report about possibly using ARPA money to help secure a project development agreement for improvements planned at five county buildings. They are the Joseph G. Cannon Administration Building, the Rita B. Garman Vermilion County Courthouse, Vermilion County Health Department, Buildings and Grounds, and Vermilion County Highway building. ARPA stands for American Rescue Plan Act funds which the county received to help recover from the Pandemic.
