The Danville area’s participation in the Saturday, December 16th Wreaths Across America will take place at 11 AM, with a ceremony at Danville National Cemetery on the VA Illiana Health Care grounds. Immediately following the ceremony will be the placement of as many wreaths as possible at the over 12,000 graves.
Local Coordinator Tammy Williams says all are welcome to volunteer with the wreaths following the ceremony. There is no limit to how many volunteers can participate. Williams says the wreaths will be arriving by semi during the week, and taken to McLane at 3400 East Main Street; before being transported to Danville National Cemetery on Friday the 15th.
AUDIO: They get put on a McLane’s trailer, and then they’re held there until Friday morning, Friday afternoon. And then they’re brought out to the cemetery that day, where we place them around the cemetery in preparation for our ceremony the next morning.
And for those who arrive for the 11 AM Wreaths Across America Ceremony on Saturday, please remember the Danville National Cemetery parking procedures.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Now the parking inside the cemetery is for handicapped only, that way we have our older people that need to be close can park there. But there are several parking lots just outside of the cemetery.
