Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr has released a statement about the progress of restaurant and development projects in Danville. Lots of good news was mentioned; such as the planned Sonic and Jimmy Johns northwest of North Vermilion and Fairchild opening next fall, or the planned Jersey Mike’s at 3655 North Vermilion opening this coming spring. And there’s also the plans by Danville native and Buffalo Bills player Trent Sherfield to open the My Town Pizzeria at 38 North Vermilion Downtown.
However, on the negative side right now, the plans for restaurants inside the old Turk Furniture building northwest of Harrison and North Vermilion have hit a snag. There IS the good news that although Revel Bakery & Play Cafe decided not to come to the Turk location, they DO still plan to open a Danville location. Mayor Williams says exactly where will be released in the future. But the main point right now is that the Mel Yarmant InCommercial Property Group that currently owns the Turk Building has put it up for sale.
Mayor Williams says it’s important to remember that the Yarmant Group has done a lot for Danville, and certainly may not be finished. He pointed out their work as contractors for the new Head Start building on East Voorhees, the new Health Clinic in the old First Midwest Bank building on East Voorhees, as well as the Survivor Resource Center and the Swing Sports Zone.

But since Yarmant has now passed on the Turk Furniture building opportunity, what happens next? Mayor Williams says the city is working with some new potential developers and owners; and he still sees a possible restaurant/residency combination, right across Harrison Street from the Fischer Theater. He says things may feel a bit down right now, but he still expects a great ending to all this.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: It’s certainly disappointing. But again, I think ultimately we will get something that’s great, for not only that space but for our entire community, that will complement the Fischer Theater and the rest of greater Downtown.
The listed price the Yarmant Group has placed on the Turk Furniture Building is $350,000.
