Retired United States Marine Corps Master Sergeant Brandun Schweizer has been officially sworn in as Mike Marron’s replacement for the remainder of the current term as Illinois 104th District State Representative.
Marron, who had already announced he was not running for reelection, recently stepped down as 104th District Representative to become the new President and CEO of Vermilion Advantage.
It was back on December 4th that area Republicans held a press conference in the Jospeh G. Cannon Vermilion County Administrative Building to announce that Schweizer would be the sole GOP candidate for the 104th District in the March 19, 2024 Primary Election.
Brandun Schweizer speaks at a December 4th press conference at the Joseph G. Cannon Vermilion County Administrative Building, where area Republicans made it official that Schweizer would be the single GOP candidate for 104th District State Rep in the March 19, 2024 Primary Election.
For Schweizer, it has been a very busy 11 months. First, he retired from the USMC after 21 years on February 1st, and took an Environmental Code Inspector position with the City of Danville a few months later (which he has now stepped away from). By November, he had decided for sure to enter the political world. And now, Schweizer is not only a candidate for 104th District State Rep; but after Marron’s stepping aside, he is the current 104th District State Rep; having been chosen to replace Marron by Vermilion and Champaign County Republican leaders.
AUDIO: This opportunity was presented to me. And I still have a really strong desire to want to serve. And after 21 years in the Marine Corps, I feel this is a good spot for me to continue my service.
Thursday’s ceremony was hosted by Budget Blinds in Savoy. Schweizer says, no doubt, this opportunity will give him some great training as a state legislator going into next year’s election. And he plans to use his time wisely.
AUDIO: Being able to get around the community, talk to as many people as I can talk to; so when the folks go to the ballot box, they’re able to see my name and put my face to that.
As he begins his career as a state lawmaker, Schweizer says two major concerns of his right off the bat will be residents being able to pay their bills, and residents being able to feel safe.
