The Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees has approved action to bring in a couple new two-year medical oriented degrees; one in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and the other in Echocardiography. DACC Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Carl Bridges says the answer is YES; when he came aboard at DACC, he was hoping to bring in more medical degrees.
AUDIO: We have a strong reputation, of course, with our nursing program; two great leaders in our imaging programs and in our health information technology. There’s so many connections with those areas to other opportunities for students academically and career wise. So I thought this would be an area that we really would like to expand in and tap into. And the need is there.
Currently DACC offers certificates in both Sonography and Echocardiography. An appeal will now be made to the State of Illinois to offer the Associate’s Degrees. Dr. Bridges says he hopes to have them in place by next fall.
Meanwhile, DACC has received a $90,000 grant from the “Rev Up EV Community College Initiative Grant” for the purchase of an electric vehicle for their Automotive Technology Program. President Dr. Stephen Nacco says he hopes to have the vehicle on campus for the spring semester.
