Aqua Illinois Water Company continues to deal with weather conditions which have placed the Danville Water Treatment Plant and system under extreme stress. The company issued an update on the situation this evening (January 18, 2024) stating that although there have been no indications of water quality issues, the company was issuing a precautionary Boil Water Advisory for a small number of customers.
The advisory, issued in consultation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, is for just over 2-thousand customers. They are ones located in the area north of Boiling Springs Road and on West Newell Road, and in the area stretching from North Vermilion Street (north of Boiling Springs Road) east to Bowman Avenue to the Vermilion Regional Airport.
Customers in that area should boil their water at least FIVE minutes before using it, or else use bottled water. They should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. If boiling water, bring it to a rolling boil, let it boil for five minutes, and let it cool before using.
Aqua says the extreme weather of the past several days has resulted in significant equipment failure. The company says it has been working around the clock to address the issue and support safe and reliable water service. The advisory issued by Aqua this evening (Thursday) said the company is experiencing limited service disruptions and decreased water pressure that will continue until Aqua is able to resume normal operations.
Customers are being requested to use water conservatively and only as necessary as the plant is returned to full capacity. The company added it will continue to keep customers updated on progress, and apologizes for any inconvenience.
