The local jobs picture showed a bit of a setback from November to December. Vermilion County’s unemployment rate rose from 4.8% in November to 5.4% in December. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 4.4% in December of 2022.
The City of Danville’s unemployment rate increased from 6.0% in November to 6.3% in December. Danville’s rate was 4.9% in December of 2022.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 500 jobs overall, when comparing December of 2023 with December of 2022. Looking at more specific categories; Leisure and Hospitality jobs were up by 500, while Educational and Health Services, along with Mining and Construction jobs, both showed gains of 100. However, employment declined by 100 compared to one year ago in both Manufacturing and Government jobs.
