A recent press release printed in the Vermilion County First website concerning meetings at the David Palmer Civic Center about secession from the State of Illinois or northern Illinois, has highlighted the need in this election year for the Democratic Party to stand up and invite all voters to STOP THE INSANITY NOW! Do not be fooled or distracted. Simply put: Loose thinking means lost dollars. Focus on your wallet and your community! Stop the secret tax levy increases here locally! Demand that local officials start representing you, not their interests.
On February 28th, at 10:00 AM at the Democratic Party Headquarters at 15 N. Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois, the Democratic Party will hold a press and media conference to address the urgent concerns of the coming election year. From the local County Board violations of the Open Meetings Act, the increase in tax levies and lack of transparency in use of public money, disregard for personal dignity and civility to employees and others, the critical issues are becoming more evident every day.
The latest futile attempt to reorganize the State and step away from the iron clad principles of one person, one vote illustrates this. One study from Southern Illinois University stated the state’s southernmost counties get back $2.81 in tax revenue for every one dollar they put in. “Downstate” residents received $1.70 for every $1 paid. Cook County loses tax money, and the collar counties lose even more. There are other studies, but the point is our businesses, our parks, our infrastructure would suffer. And why would we separate from the largest transportation and financial hub in the Midwest? Loose thinking means lost dollars. It is the type of insanity right wing agitators spew to distract and
excite people but will not better their lives. It is a political pyramid game. Only the top few will benefit from their narrow, cruel, selfish thinking. Working people who raise families will lose.
The Vermilion County Democratic Party is the only party supporting fiscal responsibility, logic, community enhancement, our national security, and government transparency this year. The election themes of this year mirror much of what President Harry S Truman encountered in 1948. A point we will be illustrating at 10:00 AM February 28th.
