The new deal signed this week by Westville School District 2 teachers is retroactive to July 1, 2023. Westville Unit 2 Superintendent Seth Miller told Neuhoff Media that reaching the finish in this new agreement was the result of careful consideration and negotiation by both the Westville Education Association and the Westville District 2 School Board.

Negotiations can be tense, especially when they’re prolonged. But I think Westville is a great community, with a school district with a long history. And I think the future of the district is very bright; as evidenced by the contract, and the strength of both sides that put it together.
Details on the agreement can be found on the school district Facebook page. They include health insurance adjustments, such as an increase on family coverage contribution of $3,800. There are other benefit changes, such as expansions for bereavement, sick time, overtime, vacation time, and mileage. And salary adjustments, that include an average four year increase of 27.9%, $13,632. Miller says, all of that was key to the final vote.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: It’s important that we honor the people in the profession, both on the support staff and the teaching staff side. We also want to be sensitive to inflation; and the environment of teacher shortage, and labor shortage in general everywhere. Both sides wanted to make sure that we were addressing entry level positions, mid level positions, and the people have been great loyal employees for a long long time; all while being fiscally responsible to our community and our taxpayers.
This new agreement for Westville teachers will be active until June 30, 2027.
