It was during a recent competition in Indianapolis that the 8 – 12 year old Youth Level 1 Premium Access Team from Danville’s Premiere Dance Academy LLC earned a second place finish, which qualified them for a trip to Orlando, Florida. In late April, they will be competing in the “Prep and Rec Grand Nationals for Open Championship Series” at Universal Studios.
These young ladies practice two to three times a week in the Three Kings of Peace Roselawn Fitness Center; with cheer practice happening inside the old Roselawn School Gym, and dance and tumbling lessons upstairs. Erica Troxel has owned Premiere Dance Academy LLC since right after the pandemic. The Roselawn Fitness Center has been their practice spot all along. And as Troxel, who helps coach the team, points out with pride; during the recent competition her 8 to 12 year old youngsters picked up the traveling “Pass the Mat” award.
AUDIO: And they also received the sportsmanship award, the “Pass the Mat.” So, that was awarded to them by the team that currently had that award. So, that team specifically chose Premium Access to pass that award on to.
The team’s main coach is a veteran of 17 years of cheerleading, Trinity Wheeler. She’s a Danville High School graduate, who also spent some time at Covington High School. And she’s currently an active cheerleader at Danville Area Community College. Wheeler says, these competing youngsters at Premiere Dance Academy LLC learn the all-around skills.
AUDIO: Cheerleading consists of tumbling and jumps and stunting. So I look a lot for girls who might already have their tumbling skills, and then I work to help them achieve those (other) skills.
The competition at Universal Studios, for the Premiere Dance Academy Youth Level 1 Premium Access Team, will be April 27th and 28th.
