Both Democratic Congresswoman Robin Kelly and Republican 109th District State Rep Adam Niemerg have released statements to Neuhoff Media concerning the now expected opening of the Affirmative Care Solutions women’s health clinic in Danville; in the old Dillman Eye Care building at 600 North Logan Avenue.
State Rep Niemerg, who was heavily involved in the issue from the March, 2023 protest across from the Logan Avenue building, declaring opposition to a clinic that would offer abortions, released a statement that included the following:
I want to applaud the (Danville) City Council for, following our press conference we did last year, being devoted to having this ordinance in place; to try to make sure this abortion clinic does not come to the City of Danville. But it looks like they’re trying to circumvent that. So I’m hopeful that we prevail on this issue. Nobody wants this abortion clinic in Danville. But like I said, these organizations rarely do things in the light of day or above board. They like to do things under the table and in darkness. So we’ll keep pushing on this issue, and try to make sure that this abortion clinic does not open its doors in Danville.
Congresswoman Kelly’s office has released a statement that includes the following:
State officials, including the Governor and the Attorney General, have repeatedly affirmed the right of every person in Illinois to receive the full spectrum of reproductive care, including abortion care. Congresswoman Kelly trusts that Illinoisans, in Danville and across the state, will continue to be protected by Illinois law guaranteeing their right to reproductive freedom, despite these ordinances which have no effect other than to scare patients and providers. As a leading advocate for maternal and infant health in Congress, Congresswoman Kelly welcomes Affirmative Care Solutions to Danville. When opened, the clinic will provide expanded resources for families seeking health care and provide critical reproductive health resources for women and families who might otherwise have to travel longer distances to receive critical care.
In addition, Personal Pac Danville, formed after the May, 2023 vote on the Danville City Council ordinance, also released a statement:
