Vermilion County office holders who will be elected this fall will have to wait a while before learning how much they will be paid.
A salary schedule for elected officials was on the agenda for Monday evening’s Finance and Personnel Committee meeting but was tabled.
Committee member Lon Henderson said he has been talking to officeholders and wondering why they are paid the same amount.
Henderson noted, for example, that he does not think it’s right for the coroner to be paid the same as the Recorder. And he noted many times the people (employees) “in the trenches are paid more than the administrator in charge.”
The discussion on salaries is expected to resume next month. Offices on the ballot this fall include Circuit Clerk, Recorder, Coroner, Auditor, and State’s Attorney. The salary for the State’s Attorney, though, is set by the State.
