The Vermilion County Board’s Wind and Solar Committee is holding public hearings Thursday (March 14, 2024) on three proposed solar projects. The first begins at 9:00 a.m. and will involve discussion of Mural Energy, LLC’s plans to construct and operate a solar energy facility of approximately 180 megawatts. It would be located on 1,433 acres of land in Jamaica and Vance Townships, in the southwestern part of Vermilion County.
All of Thursday’s hearings are being held at the Vermilion County Administration Building – also known as the Cannon Building – at 201 North Vermilion Street in Danville. The 9:00 a.m. hearing is a continuation of one originally scheduled in February.
On Thursday afternoon the Wind and Solar Committee will hear public comments on two other commercial solar energy facilities. Those hearings begin at 3:00 p.m. and are being held at the same location (the Vermilion County Administration Building).
The first application being considered in the afternoon hearings is from Woodyard Solar, LLC. It is for a proposed solar facility of approximately twenty-five acres and four mega-watts. It would be on land owned by Keith Mills, located at West Woodyard Avenue and the Village of Ridge Farm.
The final afternoon hearing Thursday is to consider an application to construct and operate a commercial solar energy facility on approximately sixty-one acres of land with five mega-watts. It would be located on two parcels of land owned by Shirley Family, LLC. Each parcel is about 30 acres. One is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of E150N (East 150 North) Road and N1340E (North 1340 East) Road. The other is the southeast corner of the intersection of Indianola – Ridge Farm Road and N1340 (North1340) Road.
The Wind and Solar Committee will listen to public comment during the hearings, then recommend to the full Vermilion County Board whether the projects should be allowed to proceed.
