Vermilion County Animal Shelter Director Kasey Snyder is hoping to have a proposal for the future in front of the Vermilion County Board within the next few weeks. Snyder says Shelter Planners of America out of Arlington, Texas recently, in late February, toured the facility at 14775 Catlin Tilton Road in Danville; and now it’s a matter of waiting for their recommendation on how the shelter can best serve Vermilion County far into the future.
Snyder says they’ll definitely still be in the same location. But the main question seems to be should a completely new facility be built, or perhaps a partial new facility, while keeping some of the current structure in use with some remodeling? In fact, Snyder has an idea on how that might work.
AUDIO: My hope is that maybe we can build a new portion of the facility for the dog population, and then refit the current facility for cats. I think that will be a huge improvement that will come leaps and bounds from where we’re at now.
As far as the battle that’s been going on for several months against that mysterious respiratory illness in dogs, Snyder says they are now down to only about eight to ten ill dogs still with symptoms and on medication; and they’ve been able to contain it. Intakes of new animals are accepted, but space is still limited; so help from the public in getting animals adopted, signing up to provide foster care, and getting lost animals claimed; is very much appreciated.
