Northeast Color Burst 5-K Attracts a Crowd

Weather conditions cooperated beautifully Saturday for the annual Northeast Elementary Magnet School 5K Fun Run in Danville.  Sadie Baer, a third-grade teacher at the school, noted it was part of the magnet school’s efforts focusing on staying healthy…

{AUDIO: “We have earned the Healthy Alliance – Healthy Generation Award several years in a row now.  And we are just continuing to educate our students and their families on how to have a healthy lifestyle along with an academic one.}

Baer says the 5k course started at one of the soccer fields at Winter Park and took participants around the park and through some nearby woods.  All along the course there were stations where volunteers used colored powder to coat participants as they ran or walked by.

Diana Stewart, owner, and president of EnvirOx – a Danville company – was helping toss the color at one of the stations.  She said her company was one of the sponsors for the Color Burst 5k. Stewart explained what her company does….

Stewart has children who attend Northeast Elementary School.  She also noted the way the school emphasizes health…

{Audio:  “We actually are a health and wellness magnet school.  So getting everybody out here on a big beautiful day in spring to just throw color, and run, and enjoy the gorgeous spring weather together, and have a lot of fun and raise money – it’s a beautiful thing to do.  All the money goes toward the school and a lot of their health and wellness initiatives for the kids.”}

Baer thanked the teachers, volunteers and parents who helped with the event.
