It was a special Monday (April 15th) morning for Danville District 118 Kenneth D. Bailey Academy principal Mitzi Campbell, as she received the Illinois Principals Association “Bridge Builders Award” for her IPA state district. A nomination for Campbell was called into the IPA office, and she received her official recognition inside the doors of the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy building at the start of Monday’s school day.
The Illinois Principals Association’s Dan Kaiser said there are numerous special features Campbell has brought to the academy’s students, with the bringing in of the “It’s in Your Head” program that specializes in regulation of emotions and behaviors being just one example.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Mitzi has reached out and worked with Danville Area Community College, she’s worked with the U of I Extension, she’s worked with the U of I in particular to build this gardening program she has here. A lot of helping hands organizations, she works with mental health organizations; the list goes on and on.

From Principal Campbell’s point of view, this is a team award for the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy staff.

I have the best work family there is, and they’re constantly reaching out to different community agencies to partner with us, so we can provide our students with more experiences.
All 21 regional IPA Bridge Builders winners will be in line for the top state recognition, this coming October 16th during the IPA fall conference in Peoria.
