We are now one week away from the scheduled Career Expo at the David S. Palmer Arena; open to the public and especially designed for those who have lost jobs due to the Danville Quaker Oats closing. It will take place 9 to 3 on Wednesday, April 24th.
But there’s much more happening as well. Vermilion County Works Director Chuck Jones recently joined Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program. Jones mentioned plans for some Rapid Response Workshops. Because after all, reviewing what you need to do to get a new job is a good idea for all ages.

There are now four of these special workshop meetings for Quaker employees scheduled: 9 AM or 2 PM on Tuesday, April 30th; as well as 9 AM or 2 PM on Wednesday, May 1st at the DACC Bremer Center. Jones says lots of different topics will be covered.

There will be people from DACC (Danville Area Community College) to talk about different training programs that are available for individuals who are interested in seeking to seeking retraining. People from the Department of Rehabilitation, talking a little bit about their program and what services they offer. We’ll also have people to talk about health insurance; retirement benefits.
Jones says Quaker Oats is working on contacting their former employees and getting them scheduled for one of these rapid response workshops.
