From obtaining approval from the Danville City Council to even at one point changing plans for the footprint of the building, Seven Point of Illinois CEO Brad Zerman will now see his cannabis dispensary at 380 Eastgate Drive in Danville, West of Lynch Road; open for good on the perhaps the biggest day of the year for cannabis consumers. Zerman says as for all the hoopla about opening on April 20th, well the “420” thing about cannabis, far as he knows, was not at first a reference to the calendar, but a reference to a time of day.
AUDIO: That was like, after my time. It was more like, I think in the last 20 years, where I think some kids were meeting after school at 4:20 in some area.
And now lots of folks just say, “It’s 420 everywhere!

The Seven Point of Illinois store display wall will clearly show Zerman’s mission for this to be both a cannabis and music store, by alternating between cannabis products and vinyl record sections all the way down. Record players will also be for sale.
There will be video screens all over for everything from learning more about all the products in the store, to watching videos of concert performances. You’ll find incredible music collectibles, and a little “Ozzy” tribute section; just ask about it. And there are even plans to offer cold drinks, which contain THC.
There is also the big room up front near the ID/check-in desk that Zerman says could someday be a consumption lounge pending city approval; or it may initially operate as a cafe, or provide space for special meetings or a day for vendors; or perhaps even concerts.

AUDIO: Hopefully people are going to like it, and want to come and hang out. And it’s super music oriented; and art. And if people want us to take this to the next level, we’re ready to do it.
A staff of about 45 locally hired people are busy and ready to go. The Seven Point of Illinois Hours will 7 AM to 9 PM Thursday through Saturday, and then 7 AM to 8 PM Sunday through Wednesday.
And one final interesting note is that this year “420” falls on one of the year’s Independent Record Store days. Zerman says you’ll find Seven Point of Illinois on an Independent Record Store Days list of “record stores that you can visit.”
Later this year, Zerman has plans for his next Seven Point of Illinois opening, outside of Detroit; in Berkley, Michigan.
