The Illiana Geneological Society Foundation’s 2024 Historical Preservation Award was handed out to two recipients on Tuesday (April 30th) evening, in the Turtle Run Banquet Center.
For former D102 personality and local broadcasting historian Doug Quick, it all began back in his parents’ home in Taylorville, IL; when he was about four years old.
AUDIO: My parents were young, and they had a television in 1951; even before the TV stations came alive across Central Illinois. And they were 90 miles away from St. Louis. They could get one station, KSD; and they had this massive TV antennae on their house. And their original TV that they had is on display at the Vermilion County Museum. And it was knd of in my blood, I guess.
Robert Bennett (2nd picture, left) spoke with Neuhoff Media prior to Tuesday evening’s Illiana Genealogical & Historical Foundation event.
Meanwhile, for the second time in less than a week, Robert Bennett was present as his late brother Scott was being honored. Last Thursday, part of I-74 was named in his honor. And this time, at the Genealogical Historical Society Foundation event, Robert was hearing some of the exact same accolades about his brother, the Late State Senator Scott Bennett.
AUDIO: I hear this over and over and over again, of course, that he was not a partisan politician; he was a civil servant, and people really appreciate that. And again, a lot came out last week, while we were dedicating the highway, about how divided things are in the United States right now. And how Scott kind of represented a rare bird.
Robert Bennett says he has heard more honors may be coming up in memory of his brother Scott, who passed away in December of 2022.
