PSAs – Upcoming events at Danville Public Library – May 12 – May 18, 2024
Rubber Ducky Readers: Beanstack Challenge started March 1! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
May 13: Teen Movie Mondays. Every Monday we will show a movie in Teen Zone and have popcorn! Teens can suggest and vote on which movie we watch. 4 pm – 6 pm.
May 13: Genealogy Workshop:. 1-2:30 pm in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. Danville & Vermilion County in the 1950 Census: Insights & Discoveries. What can the census tell us about living here in 1950? We are pleased to have Scott Norrick here in person to share with us his interesting insights.
May 14: Teen Tabletop Tuesdays. Stop by the Teen Zone on Tuesdays to play board/card games and eat snacks! Tuesdays from 4 pm – 6 pm in the Teen Zone.
May 14: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Nailed it! Inspired by the Netflix TV series, tweens will be presented with a craft and supplies, but no instructions! 4:30 pm in the Children’s Room. Ages 8-12.
May 14: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
May 15: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play, and STEAM activities for toddlers. 10 am- 11 am. 1st Floor Meeting Room.
May 15: Dungeons & Dragons. A tabletop role-playing game that allows teens to quest for treasures and fame, or at the very least hunt enemies. This program is for teens, both those new to the game and those who already know the best way to cleave an orc. New players are always welcome! Wednesdays at 4 pm in the Teen Zone.
May 15: Team STEAM. Activities designed to help students foster creativity and boost critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Wednesdays from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
May 15: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd-floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
May 16: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
May 16: Family Bilingual Storytime. Join us for stories, songs, and rhymes in Spanish and English—Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm in the Children’s Department.
May 16: A Novel Idea at 7:00 p.m. at the Fischer Theatre. This month’s movie is The Lucky One. Tickets are $5 but you can go for FREE by visiting the Danville Public Library – visit today! All proceeds are used to fund the growing programming of the Historic Fischer Theatre and the continued restoration of our historic landmark.
May 18: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory programs are designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth—Saturdays at 11 am in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
May 18: Goosebumps Parent/Child Book Club. Parents, share your Goosebumps nostalgia with your kids in our Parent-Child Book Club series! This month, we’re featuring Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes by R.L. Stine. We’ll have activities and games, and you’ll get a free copy of the book to take home. 1 pm in the 1st Floor Meeting Room
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified. Teen Craft: Stop by the Teen Zone during May for a friendship bracelet craft! Monday-Thursday 4 pm to 6 pm and Saturday 9 am to 4 pm in the Teen Zone.
