The Vermilion County Board Executive committee has forwarded to the County Board an agreement to have the City of Danville now be the single entity that takes in and handles the reporting for state funding and grants for mass transit needs, before distributing the funding to the receiving parties. As County Board Chairman Larry Baughn explained after Wednesday (May 22nd) evening’s meeting; both Danville Mass Transit (DMT), and the CRIS Rural Mass Transit District of Vermilion County will continue doing what they do best.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: A few years back, when the county had lost population; there had to be one grantee from the Illinois Department of Transportation to receive the grant funds. And at one time CRIS Transportation was that, and DMT did their own. And now the state is saying “one entity needs to do it.” And for whatever reason, the county has to deem who that person is.
Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; who attended the committee meeting, is glad to get it worked out. The city will continue running their fixed routes; and the county, through CRIS, will continue providing needed door-to-door and senior and disabled transportation, for those within the city and the county.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: They will still be managed separately; still have their own board of governments. The only difference is the state will only deal with one fiscal agency. And so, tonight, the committee recommended that we woulc be the fiscal agency.
The matter now moves on to the full Vermilion County Board for approval.
