During a trip a while back to a Rising Tide Conference, listening to a speaker talk about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES); Mark Denman School principal Stacie Sollars had an idea.

And then, Sollars thought of an organization that might be able to help.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: It kind of just meshed very well with our McKinney Vento program that we have here; which is for families that face homelessness, or risks of homelessness.
And now, a grant obtained from McKinney Vento, approved at Wednesday (May 22nd) evening’s District 118 School Board meeting, will provide for the construction of a laundry facility for District 118 families at Mark Denman School over the summer.
The service will begin this fall, with three washers and dryers in place; detergent and other necessities provided. Families will be able to do their own laundry, free of charge, during school hours, by making appointments and arranging transportation through the home liaison officer at their child’s school. Sollars says the facility will be located in an area sectioned off from the rest of the building, with an outside entrance.
