Danville High School’s graduation this coming Saturday morning (May 25th) will not be able to be at Danville Stadium due to excessively wet grounds. District 118 has decided to go to its backup plan of a 10 AM graduation this Saturday in the DHS Gymnasium. Students will need to arrive at the DHS Field House between 8:30 and 8:45 AM.
Only handheld clear bags will be allowed into the gymnasium. In addition, once the program in the gymnasium has begun at 10 AM, the doors will be locked, and late arrivals will need to watch the ceremony on closed circuit television in the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium. Principal Jacob Bretz explains the reason for that decision.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Because of the intimate, enclosed environment in the gym; we’re not an open air environment like the football field or Danville Stadium. It would be took much of a risk of a disruption; people coming in after the ceremony starts.
Anyone who gets there on time but would still rather watch graduation on the monitors in the auditorium may do so, if they have a ticket to the ceremony. For next year, Danville High School’s graduation is scheduled to be on the currently under construction revamped football field.
