Motorists who travel across Memorial Bridge on South Gilbert Street in Danville are being alerted about some lane closures scheduled to begin Monday, June 10th. The Illinois Department of Transportation says the northbound lanes of Gilbert Street (Illinois 1/U.S. 150) over the Vermilion River are expected to remain closed through June 14th, 2024, weather permitting.
The lane closures are necessary for maintenance of Memorial Bridge and will involve the area from Bluff Street to Main Street.
Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. IDOT says when feasible, motorists should avoid the work area by using alternate routes. Drivers should also pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone, obey the posted speed limits, and refrain from using mobile devices. Also be alert for workers and equipment.
In addition to the project involving Memorial Bridge, the City of Danville has announced a roadway closure for the reconstruction of the intersection at Maple and Griffin Streets. The work is scheduled to begin Monday, June 10th, 2024, at 7:00 a.m.
The work will impact all residences along Maple Street from Garfield Place to Griffin Street. The closure is expected to last approximately one week, weather permitting.
Motorists are being advised to choose an alternate route to avoid delays. And both motorists and pedestrians should use caution while traveling in the work area.
