Some leaders from the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers union at Danville’s Quaker Oats plant dropped off some memorabilia at the Vermilion County Museum Tuesday. Luke Phillips, the union’s vice president, and Tyler Bennett, the recording secretary, said they did not want to just toss the items in the trash as they cleaned out the union’s local office.
(These are some items which were already on display at the Vermilion County Museum in Danville.)
Among the items the union donated to the museum are the union’s charter, plaques listing the names of those who worked over the years at Danville’s Quaker Oats plant who are now deceased, and other items. The plant officially closed on June 8th.
The Vermilion County Museum Center and historic Dr. William Fithian home are located at 116 North Gilbert in Danville. The Fithian Home is a Lincoln Site listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Both buildings are open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday.
