THE FOLLOWING IS A VA ILLIANA HEALTH CARE RELEASE
DANVILLE, Ill. – VA Illiana will begin using AudioCare to contact Veterans who are due for their stool sample (FIT Test) and to schedule Community Care appointments. AudioCare allows VA Illiana to use automated calls and text messages to reach out to Veterans.
Using AudioCare will help reduce time spent in administrative tasks while allowing VA to reach Veterans when they are available to discuss their care options. Veterans who receive an automated call or text message will have the option to connect with a VA Illiana staff member. If the Veteran would prefer to discuss their health care options at a later time, contact information will be provided. Veterans will have the option to opt-out of the automated calls and text.
“This technology will help us connect with Veterans quickly and ensure they continue to get the best and fastest care available,” said Executive Director Staci Williams, Pharm D, RPh. “It helps us focus our resources on our core mission of providing high-quality health care.”
Early detection and timely care are an important component of people’s wellness journey. FIT test can help detect colorectal cancer early. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is one of the top five leading causes of cancer deaths for both men and women.
“Prevention is better than any medicine. If you are due for a stool sample (FIT Test), you will get an automated text message or phone call reminder from VA Illiana,” said Chief Ambulatory Care Nursing, Eric Palmer DNP. “A FIT test can help detect and treat colorectal cancer early so we can get better outcomes.”
