THE FOLLOWING IS A JENNIFER BAILEY STORY FROM THE NEWS-GAZETTE’S BAILEY BUZZ
DACC President Stephen Nacco said Jameson Steel has contracted with the Hegeler Foundation to reconstruct the Garden Gateway at the college. Work on the infrastructure began earlier this month.
He referred me to DACC Executive Director of Maintenance and Facilities Doug Adams for more information.
According to Adams, “We call that structure the garden gateway. This is a decorative trellis structure that was built in 2008 as the gateway to the college. Over the years the seal at the top of the columns has failed allowing them to fill with water. When the temperatures fall below freezing the pressure created from the frozen water inside the column has pushed the mounting plates on both ends up and down causing the structure to deform.”
Jamison Steel Fabrication from Oakwood is disassembling the entire structure and repairing all the columns before reassembling. All the damaged façade along with column tops and bottoms are being replaced and everything will receive a fresh coat of paint.
“We were expecting to be done by mid-July, but due to subcontractor scheduling the completion date might be pushed out to the first part of August,” Adams said.
