This coming Saturday, July 6th; the Georgetown Fair opens; scheduled to go a full week; through Saturday, July 13th. The Georgetown Fair’s Don Hackler recently joined Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection. This will be the second year of an earlier Georgetown Fair, which used to be during the first week of August. Hackler says some adjustments were needed with the change, and they continue.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: (The) biggest reason was to get away from both the Indiana State Fairs and the Illinois State Fairs. We were kind of sandwiched between them; and especially for our livestock side of things, there was a concern where we could possibly draw some more numbers with livestock.
Hackler says the “jump in livestock” didn’t really happen last year, but they’re hoping some additional adjustments will make that the case in 2024.
Hackler also says another one of the biggest changes needed was with the grandstand schedule, and putting one of those “traditional favorites” at the start of the fair, which they are doing this year as well.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: (We) found a lot of conflicts with area events. So, we kind of made some modifications. Typically, we’ve closed our fair with our demolition derby. Now, we are opening with our demolition derby; which will be July the 6th in our grandstand.
There will be no gate admission to the fair during all the livestock shows happening Saturday the 6th through Monday the 8th. The carnival will open for the first time on Tuesday the 9th.
As for other favorites, the Queen Pageant will once again be inside the banquet facility, starting at 7 PM Monday the 8th. The next night, Tuesday the 9th, also inside the banquet center; will be the talent show, starting at 6 PM.
And don’t forget the Monday grandstand event, put on by the Georgetown – Ridge Farm Men’s Club; the Fearless Farmer Dash, with some very creative entertainment and relay races.
