Balloons Over Vermilion is not until Friday and Saturday but some of the pilots are scheduled to participate in this year’s Splash-n-Dash event Thursday evening. Gates at the Danville Boat Club open at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (July 12th) for the event which is expected to involve ten hot air balloons whose pilots will toss a rubber duck and try to hit a target floating on Lake Vermilion.
Admission to the grounds at the Boat Club Thursday is five dollars, with children 10 and under admitted free with a paid adult. There will be food and drinks available for purchase.
The event is open to the public (with paid admission).
Meanwhile preparations continue at the Vermilion Regional Airport for Balloons Over Vermilion on Friday and Saturday.
Event Co-Chair Jaclyn Vinson says the ‘Kids Zone’ this year is incredible…
Audio Player{AUDIO: “We have a lot of activities for the kids. We have air-jumping, rock climbing, laser tag. We have soccer, so they can just come and play soccer. We’re going to have pickle ball with the Danville Tennis Center. We have the free lawn games that are always there. And, of course, Joyful Bubbles just making the whole area look spectacular.”}
The other Event Co-Chair, Carly Goodwin, notes tethered rides in a hot air balloon will be available to the public again this year….
Audio Player{AUDIO: “Those start at 7 (o’clock) on Friday night and Saturday as well. Weather-depending of course. Those are $15-dollars for adults and $10-dollars for children ten and under. So everybody has the opportunity to get up in a hot air balloon if that is something that you’ve always wanted to do.}
Of course, all flights, including the Splash-n-Dash, are dependent on weather conditions. In addition to tethered balloon rides on Friday and Saturday there will also be helicopter rides available for purchase.
