ABOVE: Tracy Cherry, a member of the Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees, prepares for Monday evening’s DACC Board meeting.
It was last week that the local education world found out that retired Danville High School principal Tracy Cherry was taking the position as Interim Prinicipal at Schlarman Academy. Since retiring as the DHS leader after the spring of 2023 semester, Cherry has been busy. She was still working for District 118 as a mentor for school principals, as well as helping with alternative program, three days a week; and baby sitting for her grandson two days a week. And, she’s a member of the Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees. Prior to Monday night’s DACC Board meeting, Cherry told us that in looking at the problems at Schlarman Academy over the past couple years; she started thinking, “I’d like to help.”

Cherry says if there’s one thing she’d like to accomplish at the end of her interim year as principal, it would be to have brought some people back; as well as having brought some new people in.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Hopefully we start to build the numbers again; and getting some of the families back that have been there in the past. And just kind of bridge the gap that’s been created the last couple of years; and bring everyone back together on one accord. And if I can accomplish some of that, I think we would be moving in the right direction.
The new school year at Schlarman Academy’s North and South Campuses begins on August 14th.
