THE FOLLOWING RELEASE IS FROM THE DACC CO-ED COMPETITIVE CHEER TEAM
Danville Area Community College has a small co-ed competitive cheerleading team. This team comprises 12 female athletes and four male athletes. We recently traveled to Louisville Kentucky over the weekend (July 26th – 28th) to attend the National Cheerleading Association known as the NCA . It is a college level cheerleading camp that had Division One all the way to junior college level schools that came together to learn new material, compete and collaborate.
Danville Area Community college was the only junior college in attendance. We were placed in a small co-ed division with two Division One level teams one being from The University of Akron and the other being Southeast Missouri State University. In our division we competed with 2 different routines that we had to prepare prior to camp. One was a Rally routine which includes music, tumbling and stunting, props and a mascot if available. The other was called a 45 second routine which includes a chant, a cheer, tumbling, props and a mascot if available. This particular one is to mimic a routine to be demonstrated during a 45 second time out. Danville competed against the 2 other teams in their division and received 1st place for the rally routine and the 45 second routine!
Since we were the winners in our division we got to perform and compete in front of the entire camp for the 45 second routine. We placed second place overall in the run off! This is the first time in program history, for winning in our division for both categories and for us placing second place over all divisions at camp. The cheerleaders and coaches were approached by multiple schools and coaches praising how well they did. Past camp instructors applauded how far the team has come from the previous year.
The entire experience was great for our program. I think the highlight was receiving a SILVER paid bid to go to the NCA cheerleading nationals competition for being the most improved team out the entire camp. The Head coach is Sharda Pascal; and assistant coaches are Abby Goble and Jacob Lawyer.
