The “getting ready for the school year” events from this past week included Saturday’s (Aug 3rd) DK2’s Fourth Annual 100 Free Haircuts event at the Boys and Girls Club of Danville. As Darrin Hightower reminded us, this is in memory of his cousin Derric Hightower, Jr; who passed away in 2019. There is also a full tuition scholarship in Derric’s name, awarded every year to a Schlarman Academy kindergarten student. Darrin says, they’re hoping to keep this new school year haircuts tradition going.

AUDIO: This will be the fourth annual event. So, we try to do it every year. There’s no limit to when we’re going to stop, but this is the fourth annual. My cousin Derric Hightower, you know, he just loved the kids. So what we do is, we try to put something in his memory. So what other way; to do a scholarship to honor his memory.
Saturday’s haircuts event at the Boys and Girls Club ran Noon to 5 PM; with everything free from the haircuts, to the refreshments, to the face painting, to the bounce houses.
