Work is expected to begin soon on a $7.5 million dollar upgrade on some Vermilion County owned buildings. County Board Chairman Larry Baughn says crews will first be working at the Rita B. Garman Vermilion County Courthouse….

So we’re looking to get both of those projects at least started. We’ll have some abatement work – as Blaine reiterated tonight – that will have to be done at the courthouse. (It’s) just because of the age of the building and maybe some lead-based paint or if there’s some asbestos back behind those windows. But folks should start seeing some work being done on at least the courthouse and the Health Department.”}
Boilers are also scheduled to be replaced at the courthouse, and new LED lighting will be added in both buildings.
Blaine Meadows of Centrica Business Solutions told members of the County Board’s Finance Committee this (Monday) evening that he expects the U. S. Park Service will only allow some sort of restoration of windows at the Joseph G. Cannon Building (since it was previously federally owned.)…

They’re just technically not calling it a window replacement. …This restoration company we’ve talked with is nationally recognized for doing over 3-thousand projects for the federal government around the country.”}
The Finance Committee is recommending the full board approve a Project Development Agreement with Centrica Business Solutions that would allow final cost figures to be determined. It has been estimated the window work at the Joseph G. Cannon Building (shown here) could cost between two-point-two and three-million-dollars.
