This fall’s November 5th Election Day may be right around the corner; but believe it or not, it’s already time to start thinking about next spring’s Consolidated Elections.
Starting Tuesday morning (Aug 20th) at 8 AM, both the Danville Election Commission and Vermilion County Clerk’s Offices will have petition packets ready for interested candidates. The Clerk’s office is on the main level of the Joseph G. Cannon Building at 201 North Vermilion, the Commission’s office on the lower level.
Danville Election Commission Director Sandra Delhaye reminds us that there may not be an election for mayor this time around; but as always, one spot in each Danville ward is up for grabs. And getting involved locally is a great place to begin.
AUDIO: They’re always looking for good people to start out and be in the wards. We have our packets all ready. We’ve got our sign in list, we’ve got our packets, we’ve got all the information that they’ll need. Just stop by the office, 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.
In the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office, this may not be their busiest election. But as Supervisor of Elections Carrie Wilson reminds us, if you’re running for a school board spot in this county, you’ll need to stop in and get your packet.
AUDIO: We only actually handle packets for the school boards, and the Regional Board of Trustees. All municipalities will have to get packets from their clerks. I show a total off 44 seats up within the county on all the school boards. So, I do anticipate a little bit of activity.
And we should also mention that, if you’re wondering, early voting for the November 5th election begins on September 26th.
