An area near Downtown Danville looks better – thanks to the work of some volunteers with Keep Vermilion County Beautiful. They pitched in to clean an area west of the Palmer Arena and down towards a boardwalk along the Vermilion River on Saturday.
Brenda Adams, Executive Director of Keep Vermilion County Beautiful, explained why that area was targeted…
{AUDIO: “We were looking at some of the areas that needed cleaned up. (We) talked with some of the city officials who recommended this spot as needing cleaned up. There’s some leftover encampment items that needed picked up, that the people are no longer at. So, we’re just trying to keep the area cleaned up and beautiful.”}
(Haley Dixon and her sister, Claire, of Hoopeston, pick-up trash along a trail west of the Palmer Arena in Danville on Saturday.)
(This area west of the Palmer Arena and near the intersection of Main and Gilbert Streets was part of the area involved in the KVCB cleanup.)
Adams noted Keep Vermilion County Beautiful works county-wide. Some of the volunteers helping in Danville on Saturday, in fact, live in Hoopeston. Another cleanup is coming soon….
{AUDIO: “We do have our next cleanup September 21st at the Vermilion River Fall Festival. And we’ll be doing a cleanup of Ellsworth Park at that time. So, get in touch with me if you’re interested in our next cleanup at that time.}
(Some of the items removed from along a path west of the Palmer Arena.)
Adams explained how volunteers can get involved…
{AUDIO: “They can contact me on Facebook or by email at KVCB.Brenda@gmail.com and I’d be happy to hook them up with memberships, with sponsorship of some of our events that we do – of our litter cleanups. And whatever they have an interest in, we can plug them in.”}
Keep Vermilion County Beautiful provides pickers, gloves, vests and other equipment. They just need volunteers who are willing to help.
