DANVILLE — Just as the village of Tilton did in June, Danville officials are ready to begin discussions around capping the number of cannabis dispensary licenses in the city — at three.
Next Thursday, the Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission will consider the zoning administrator’s request to amend the code regarding medicinal and adult-use cannabis.
The new language proposed to be added states: “No more than three medicinal/adult-use cannabis dispensing organizations shall be granted a special-use and permitted to be located within the city of Danville. Each medicinal/adult-use cannabis dispensing organization may only be located upon approval of a special-use as set forth in this section.”
The city has two dispensaries open — Sunnyside and Seven Point. A third business — MariWorks/nuEra — has been approved.
Danville Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk said the proposal “is basically driving some city council momentum to at least open the discussion: Is three enough?”
In past aldermen discussions, “that’s kind of the general consensus that this is enough,” Cronk added.
Also, the zoning commission next week will consider allowing downtown business owners to place temporary signs on the public right-of-way. It’s currently not permitted.
Owners have put up temporary signs in the past — to say they’re open for business, in some cases — but the signage must meet safety guidelines, Cronk said.
As proposed, “temporary signs must be placed directly in front of the business to which they pertain and must not extend more than four feet from the storefront into the public right-of-way.” They also must be placed and removed daily based on business hours.
In other business, the zoning commission will consider Donato Solar- Vermilion LLC’s special-use permit request to allow for a drive-up, self-storage facility in the B2-general business zoning district at 3811 N. Vermilion St.
The former Tilton Auto Sales building would be torn down, Cronk said.
The city hasn’t received a site plan yet, Cronk said.
