September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! This year’s theme is Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye. Sign up for a library card in September for a limited-edition Transformers-inspired DPL card cover! Transformers-inspired card cover upgrades are available to the first 300 applicants only.
Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
September 9: Teen Movie Mondays. Join us on the 2nd Monday of every month for a movie and popcorn in Teen Zone! Teens can suggest and vote on which movie we watch. 4 pm – 6 pm.
September 9: Genealogy Workshop:. Genealogy: A Closer Look at the 1850-1950 U.S. Census Records. We will take a closer look at the 1850 to 1950 U.S. Census records as vital genealogy resources while looking into details you may have missed. 1-2:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
September 10: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Board Game Night. Play your favorite game with your friends. 4:30 pm in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore). Ages 8-12.
September 10: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore).
September 11: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play, and STEAM activities for toddlers. Wednesdays 10 am- 11 am. 1st Floor Meeting Room.
September 11: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd-floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
September 11: Team STEAM. Join us for activities designed to help students foster creativity and boost critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
September 12: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
September 12: Tween 3D Pen Class. Get your tech on while you learn about 3D Pens. Use software to create your own 3D masterpiece! For ages 8-12. 4:30 p.m.
September 13-15: A Novel Idea – Goosebumps: The Musical. Get ready to step into the spine-tingling world of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps with our upcoming production of “Goosebumps: The Musical”! In partnership with the Danville Public Library and the Danville Library Foundation the Spotlight Performing Arts team is so excited to bring this show to the Danville community on the DACC Bremer Center stage. September 13 & 14 at 7 pm, and September 15 at 2 pm. DACC Bremer Center, 2000 E. Main St., Danville, IL 61832. This show is free to the public!
September 14: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory programs are designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth—Saturdays at 11 am in the Children’s Department.
September 14: Lego Club: Transformers Edition. Channel your inner builder by creating your favorite Transformer’s Autobot character and their Earth-friendly Alt Mode out of Legos! Lego Transformer creations will be on display during the month of September as we celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month. This program is created for ages 5-12. 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Rutan Room (formerly the Bookstore)
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified.
