An oversized load being hauled on a truck along Interstate 74 struck and damaged a bridge near Oakwood today (Sunday, September 22nd). Illinois State Police say the bridge that was hit carries traffic along County Road 680 East over the interstate. Because of the accident County Road 680 East is now closed in that area. And (as of mid-afternoon) Sunday the right lane of westbound traffic along Interstate 74 in that area is also closed.
State Police say there were no injuries when the oversized load hit the bridge. Troopers are recommending motorists use an alternate route. Illinois State Police and workers from the Illinois Department of Transportation have been on the scene handling traffic control.
