THE FOLLOWING IS A CITY OF DANVILLE RELEASE
Danville, October 9, 2024 – The City of Danville is excited to announce that, in partnership with Vermilion County, it has been awarded $9,999,900 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Safe Streets and Roads for All grant is part of the collaborative efforts initiated in 2023 by the City, Vermilion County, and the Danville Area Transportation Study to develop the Vermilion County Safety Action Plan (VCSAP), aimed at significantly reducing the risk of severe or fatal traffic accidents.
The funding will support two primary initiatives:
Vulnerable Road User Network Upgrades: This initiative will focus on Seminary Street and Bowman Avenue, facilitating improvements such as the installation of bike lanes and sidewalks. These enhancements are designed to promote safety and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the community.
Lane Departure Safety Improvements: This project will address safety concerns in eight high risk areas, including Catlin-Homer Road, Westville Road/Forest Glen Road, Perrysville Road, and Kickapoo Park Road. These targeted improvements aim to enhance roadway safety for all users.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Vermilion County for its partnership in this endeavor, which will not only enhance the City of Danville but also benefit the greater Vermilion County area.
We would like to emphasize that all grant applications are subject to specific categories and regulations established by the funding provider.
