During Tuesday evening’s Vermilion County Board meeting, the board placed the new proposed county tax levy on display. County Board Chairman Larry Baughn says things are looking good, in that the assessed valuation of the overall county has gone up by ten percent. And Vermilion County residents not seeing an increase in their own property’s EAV (Equalized Assessed Valuation) should be seeing a lower tax bill this time around. Baughn says one reason for these two things being able to happen at the same time is some important “fly over research” of Vermilion County properties that was done a while back.
AUDIO: You know a few years ago we had paid for that flyover, which we hadn’t done in quite some time. So it picked up a lot of properties maybe that weren’t on the tax roles. So that certainly helped as well.
In addition to property owners hearing that good news, Baughn says some good news in the budget for the whole county is going to be continued planned work at the Joseph G. Cannon Vermilion County Office Building.
AUDIO: We put the budget on display as well. And so, we’re excited about some things in there; about another $3 million improvement to the Cannon Building on windows is included in the new budget. So we’re excited to get things rolling here, and do it the right way.
The new tax levy and budget are scheduled to be voted on at the November Vermilion County Board meeting, with the new fiscal year beginning on December 1st.
