THE FOLLOWING IS AN OAKWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY RELEASE
Oakwood, Ill – Fall is the perfect time to add soups and stews to your menu, and the Oakwood Public Library is hosting an informative session on the art of soup making. Join University of Illinois Extension Nutrition & Wellness Educator Rachel Mannen on Friday, October 25th at 4:30 PM to learn how to create delicious, nutritious, and affordable soups.
“Soups are a great way to stay warm and healthy during the colder months,” said Rachel Mannen. “In this class, I’ll share tips and tricks for making soups low in sodium and fat but packed with flavor. We’ll also explore using electric pressure cookers to make soup quickly and easily.”
Participants will learn about the health benefits of soup, including its ability to help lower blood pressure. Handouts and recipes will be provided to recreate these delicious soups at home.
“One of the things that often confuses people is the difference between soup and stew, broth and stock,” adds Mannen. “In this class, we’ll clarify these terms and discuss the key characteristics that distinguish them. You’ll learn when to use each of these culinary foundations to create the perfect soup or stew for your taste.”
The class will take place at the Oakwood Public Library (110 E Finley St, Oakwood, IL 61858). Please register by October 23rd to secure your spot.
