THE FOLLOWING IS A CITY OF DANVILLE RELEASE
Danville, October 16, 2024 –The City of Danville is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Inflation Reduction Act and the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program. This grant represents the highest municipal award in Illinois, paving the way for the launch of our innovative program, Community Roots: Danville’s Urban Reforestation and Revitalization Plan.
This initiative is designed to enhance tree canopy coverage in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, develop comprehensive maintenance plans, create a detailed tree inventory map, and establish educational programs that highlight the essential role trees play in our community’s well-being.
USDA and the City of Danville are equal opportunity providers and employers.
To celebrate this remarkable achievement and the bright future of our urban forestry efforts, we invite families and nature enthusiasts to join us for an Arbor Day celebration at the Danville Public Library on Saturday, October 19, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. This event is held in collaboration with Trees for Danville. The celebration will kick off with an Arbor Day Proclamation by Patrick Halloran. Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities, including sapling giveaways, tree care guide distributions, tree planting demonstrations, family-friendly activities, and contests such as “tree-via” and “poet-tree.”
Join the City of Danville and Trees for Danville in honoring our natural heritage and the launch of the Community Roots initiative on October 19th from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Trees for Danville and the USDA Forest Service for making this vital program possible in Danville.
