Election Day is still two weeks away, but many Vermilion County voters have already voted early. Bill Pickett has more…
County Clerk Cathy Jenkins described the turnout during an interview with Bill Pickett Monday afternoon…
{AUDIO: “We’re looking really good for the County Clerk’s Office in the county. Because, normally we don’t have a lot of activity this late, but we have had more turnout in mail-in ballots and Early Voting than we’ve had in previous years which makes me very happy.”}
Both the County Clerk’s Office and the Danville Board of Election Commission are located at the Joseph G. Cannon Building at 201 North Vermilion in Danville. They are the offices where voters cast their early votes.
Carrie Wilson, Supervisor of Elections for the County Clerk’s Office, says you can still vote even if you have not yet registered….
{AUDIO: “We are in Grace Period Voting now. So if someone would like to come in and register or update anything with their registration – they would just need to bring two forms of I-D…one with the correct address. We would get everything updated, and/or registered, and then they would vote at that same time.”}
Both County Clerk Cathy Jenkins and Sandy Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, reported they are averaging over one-hundred early voters a day in their respective offices. And Delhaye added that is not normal.
Delhaye is expecting a big turnout on Election Day…
{AUDIO: “To that note I even ordered extra ballots above and beyond what I would normally do for a Presidential (Election). Just because there has been so much talk. And people are really either for one candidate or for another. But they’re out there and they’re coming in pretty heavy this year.”}
Jenkins is also expecting a huge turnout in the Vermilion County precincts that are located outside Danville…
{AUDIO: “I’m personally betting against myself. Last Presidential Election we had about a 73-percent for the county (outside Danville) voting. I’m really pushing 93-percent for the county this time. That’s what I’m really hoping for. I’m betting against myself, but right now it looks pretty good that we’re going to get to that point.”}
In addition to their regular hours, both the County Clerk and Danville Election Commission offices will be open the next two Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until noon for early voting.
